There is a very famous and highly respected Buddhist monk in Thailand who is a wonderful teacher and so very compassionate, with students coming from all over the World just to see him. And while he speaks almost no English, he still has gained thousands of students from around the Globe.
One day, a student finally asked him how he gained so many students. “You are so famous, but you don’t speak any English he exclaimed. How do you teach to so many English speaking people?”.
The monk said it is very easy, I only need two words of English. Whoever sits with me, I just say Empty empty! Happy happy!.
In those few words, all the teachings are there. And all of the students understand what the teachings are about.
You see, Ajahn Jumnien understands that all things arise and vanish like a dream, they change, they cannot be possessed. And by accepting this truth, one is able to move through this world gracefully and is happy.
