Home: A Place of Refuge for Those Who Lack Shelter
Bhante Sujatha is always talking to us about practicing love, compassion, and generosity. Talking about these qualities is very easy. Listening to someone talking about them is also easy, and very pleasant.
How about doing it?
We feel very inspired after leaving the temple or hearing a Dhamma talk, but for most of us, that motivation can quickly fade and be replaced by some other interest. Many of us only refer to our practice when we are confronted with a challenging situation, or feel the need to support someone in need of help. It is much less often the case where we actually find ourselves motivated to seek those in need in order to practice these qualities.
This is not to say that one needs to be always pursuing relief work in order to practice. Rather, that we have to be mindful that when the motivation to help is present, without the conditions to necessitate right action, the possibility of the motivation passing, increases.
Still, from a practical point of view, even when we have the best intention, not all of us have the time to seek worthy causes, assess the situation, and determine the best course of action.
In such a case we are fortunate to have Bhante Sujatha as a resource.
We all know that Bhante Sujatha loves charitable work, and that his slogan is “Love in Action.” His pursuit to find and help those in need creates an opportunity for us all together to put our right intentions to action.
Each year Bhante Sujatha pursues several charitable intentions and has announced his selection for the “2013 Sri Lanka Home Development Project.”
Bhante is inviting your donations to complete the construction of a home for a family of four living in rural Sri Lanka.
Susantha and Padma Kaumari, parents of two young boys age 3 and 12, are living in an unfinished and scantily furnished home.
Consider the pictures below for a moment and imagine living in such conditions: cramped and unprotected rooms, smoky kitchens, wild elephants nearby, and children unprotected. In addition, without a proper roof and gutters for drainage the house is ill equipped for the rainy season.
Susantha is a farmer, and Padma a housewife. Both work hard for their family, but money is scarce, and life is hard when the need for food and clothes take precedence over a roof.
Bhante Sujatha has personally investigated this case and knows that this is a good family, and that they need a nice place to live: a home.
This is your time to help. For $3000.00 USD the house can be properly finished. Please help from your heart. What ever you feel right for you is enough. It doesn’t matter how much; it matters how it comes from your heart.
